RED SCARE ON SUNSET takes place in 1950’s Hollywood, where film star Mary Dale (Charles Busch) finds the Red Menace invading her own Beverly Hills backyard. When she discovers that her husband has been lured into the local Communist party by way of a method acting class and that there is a left wing plot afoot to abolish the star system, Mary wages a private war to save her husband, her country and billing over the title. The McCarthy era is turned on its head in this novel take on a serious subject. RED SCARE ON SUNSET originally opened at The WPA Theatre in March, 1991 (Kyle Renick, Artistic Director). It subsequently opened at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in June, 1991. It was directed by Kenneth Elliott. Busch returns to Theater for the New City following the world premieres of his plays Shanghai Moon, The Divine Sister, Judith of Bethulia, and last year’s Charles Busch’s CLEOPATRA, all directed by Andress. In December, Busch and Andress brought the 18th edition of the staged reading of Busch's Times Square Angel, which has become an annual holiday tradition for Theater for the New City. Tickets for RED SCARE ON SUNSET are on sale now via SmartTix.com. All tickets are $30 and seating is General Admission. Limit 4 tickets per order. *Cast subject to change.
